BFA ~ 2
Day two at BFA started with an early morning lecture by Zhang Xianmin. His two-hour lecture covered a lot of different films, but after conferring with my classmates, we are all unsure of what the lecture topic actually was.
There was a lot of discussion of the benefits of 35mm film vs Digital Video. My stomach started rumbling loudly and my thoughts turned to lunch. While my classmates decided to go to the grocery store,
I wanted to eat quickly and take a nap.
While eating the most uninspired Pineapple Rice this side of the Pearl River, I started to feel awful; my stomach was rumbling and I started to feel drained.
The next two hour lecture was perhaps the best lecture I've had in a while. Yomi talked about the genesis of Tiananmen Square in national imagery. It was pretty interesting and I liked the comparison of the October 1, 1949 film with a recreation of it from the 1950s.
Later, my classmates watched a film about Tiananmen, called The Square. They didn't care for it. I was in my room having diarrhea. Go me!
