Busy Saturday

Cypress Lawn Memorial Park I, originally uploaded by brappy★.

I hate getting up early. Sure, I'll do it when I need to, I just don't enjoy it very much. Today, I got up before my alarm (8.30a) and headed to Everett to see my mom for breakfast and talk about my grandma, who is in the hospital.

I stopped at the Costco in Everett and picked up two prints for my mom of a pagoda in Xi'an, and since I arrived before the store opened, I was able to watch hordes of eager suburbanites lining up for some warehouse shopping. It was sort of sad.

We had a nice breakfast at the Totem Diner and then actually went to see my grandma, who is recovering from a difficult (and ultimately unsuccessful) heart-bypass surgery. After hearing reports of her declining health for several days (including some very scary moments), she has rallied and is much more stable than previous days. Of course, things have changed fast, and she has a difficult recovery ahead.

Fortunately, I am able to report that she looks better than I thought and is quite lucid (she remembered I was graduating soon, which I had only mentioned in passing several weeks ago).

After a short visit, we headed to the mall, where my mom bought some clothes for work, and I made funny comments about appliquéd Christmas sweaters, and a bizarre coincidence.

I shot a couple photos of the weird monument at the cemetery across the street from the mall, and drove back, witnessing one fender-bender and seeing numerous accidents on the side of the highway.
