Veterans' Day

Unknown, originally uploaded by brappy★.

Yesterday was Veterans' Day, Armistice Day and Remembrance Day. Today, many have a day off to observe the sad, supreme sacrifice many have made for our respective countries.

My father was a Viet Nam-era veteran, and was sent to Iraq in 2004 for a little over a year. The entire time he was away, every day, I would listen to news reports about the war and hope that I didn't hear any news about his base, Camp Anaconda or the nearby town, Balad. It was a sad time for me, but after a year or so, my father came back, relatively unharmed. I have so much respect and love for my Dad. I'm so thankful that he's back, and now retired from the military. Now, I have a better perspective on how the families of the men and women who have died at war feel, and they have my utmost respect.
